The purpose of this wiki is to give new cyclists and people thinking about cycling (and people who are uncertain about any aspect of everyday cycling) some basic information. It is surprising how so much about cycling isn't obvious until it gets pointed out.
The main body is set out as a nine section FAQ that give intelligent answers to basic questions. The appendices contain detailed information.
Dear cyclist-to-be,
There's lots to tell you about, but DON'T WORRY, most people manage the hard way and are still cycling a lifetime later. Even for those who potter to the shops or enjoy the daily commute, it becomes just a part of everyday life. The purpose of this FAQ is to give you the best start we can think of.

…until they meet another and then you won't find more helpful buddies anywhere. If you can't find the answer to your question here then try your Local Bike Shop (LBS) or uk.rec.cycling.
